Job Description:
Job Description: The Department of Neurology is searching for an
Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Neurology with
specialization in Epileptology. The Department of Neurology
provides clinical services to the community of NW Ohio and SE
Michigan for all types of neurological disorders. A An important
aspect of the mission of the University of Toledo College of
Mission and Life Sciences is educating students, residents and
fellows as well as developing research programs related to
neurological disorders. As a full time, faculty member, he/she is
required to devote his/her full professional efforts to the
programs of the College of Medicine and Life Sciences, fulfilling
at the highest level of professional competence. This is an
academic position, which requires a combination of teaching,
patient care, research/scholarship, as well as administrative
activities, that are necessary for the function of the Department
of Neurology. About the Role: EEG service – On call for 7 days at a
time (24 hours per day), rotation of 1 in 6 IOM reading –
Opportunity to read IOM 1-2 days per week General Neurology
inpatient service (primary or consult service) – 4-8 weeks of
service per year (night call is every other night during these 4-8
weeks) Outpatient clinic – 6-8 half days Resident outpatient
continuity clinic staffing – 6-8 days per year Responsibilities:
Teaching: He/she will be expected to actively participate in the
Department’s educational programs, teaching medical students and
residents. This will include participation in the medical student
lecture series, active participation in all of the teaching
conferences of the Department, participation in the postgraduate
courses conducted by the Department, and precepting and mentoring
students and residents. Specific responsibilities include Teaching
pre-clerkship medical students in the classroom, small groups and
in other clinical or non-clinical settings Teaching rounds and
ambulatory clinics with medical students during clerkship and
during their advanced clinical rotations Didactics for medical
students, residents and fellows Mentorship and advising for
students, residents and fellows. Departmental conferences such as
Morbidity and Mortality Conference, Grand Rounds and Journal Clubs
Clinical: He/she is required to participate in the neurology
practice structure including inpatient and outpatient clinical
services. The Epileptologist shares EEG reading service among the
division, ranging from 8-12 weeks per year. General Inpatient
admitting or consult service ranges from 4-8 weeks per year.
Outpatient clinics will be assigned for 6-8 half days per week when
not on service. There is an opportunity to read IOM several days
per week, as applicable. Research/Scholarship: He/she is required
to participate in research and other scholarly activities related
to the area of expertise and interest with expectation of
intramural and extramural grant funding Administration/Service:
He/she will be expected to participate, to the extent that you may
be reasonably called upon, in administrative and/or services
functions of the Department of Neurology, the College of Medicine
and Life Sciences or teaching hospital committees. Minimum
Qualifications: The faculty member must be a MD/DO who has
successfully completed a residency in neurology Successfully
completed a fellowship in epilepsy or clinical neurophysiology The
candidate must be Board Certified or become Board Certified within
3 years of recruitment. Must meet all the institutional
requirements for appointment to Assistant Professor. Benefits:
